Error "InterfaceLib-GetComponentResource could not be found" when installing an Adobe product (Mac OS 9.2.x)

Issue

When you try to install Adobe Acrobat 5.x, Adobe Photoshop 7.0.x, or Adobe InDesign 2.x in Mac OS 9.2.x, the installer returns the error "The application Install [product] could not be opened because InterfaceLib--GetComponentResource could not be found. You may need to install a newer version of InterfaceLib--GetComponentResource."

Detail

Components from different versions of QuickTime are installed. (To check versions of QuickTime components, see Background information.)

Solution: Install QuickTime 6.0, and then install the Adobe product with the base set of extensions enabled.

You can download QuickTime 6.0 from the Apple Web site at www.apple.com/quicktime .

To install the Adobe product with the base set of extensions enabled:

1. Save a copy of the current extension set, and then enable the base set of extensions:

a. Choose Control Panels > Extensions Manager from the Apple menu.

b. Click Duplicate Set, name the extension set, and click OK.

c. From the Selected Set menu, choose Mac OS 9.x Base.

d. Click Restart.

2. Install the Adobe product.

3. Reenable the previous extension set:

a. Choose Control Panels > Extensions Manager from the Apple menu.

b. Choose the extension set you named in step 1b from the Selected Set menu.

c. Click Restart.

Background information

Most installers for Adobe products require QuickTime. If components from different versions of QuickTime are installed, the installer can't recognize QuickTime and returns an error.

To check the version of installed QuickTime components:

1. Choose Control Panels > Extensions Manager from the Apple menu.

2. Scroll the window to view version numbers for the following:

-- QuickTime Settings

-- QuickTime

-- QuickTime PowerPlug
