Error "16-bit Windows Subsystem..." When Opening Acrobat Capture (2.0 or 3.0 PE in Windows 2000)

Issue

When you try to open Adobe Acrobat Capture 2.0 or Acrobat Capture 3.0 Personal Edition (PE), Windows 2000 returns the error "16-bit Windows Subsystem: System\CurrentControlSet\Control\VirtualDeviceDriver. VDD. Virtual Device Driver format in the registry is invalid. Choose 'Close' to terminate the application."

Solutions

Do one of the following solutions:

Solution 1: Install the Acrobat Capture 3.01 update.

Install the Acrobat Capture 3.01 update, which was released on September 8, 2000, and mailed to all registered users of Acrobat Capture 3.0 at no charge. If you did not receive your copy, call Adobe Customer Services at 800-833-6687.

Solution 2: Install the updated Sentinel System driver.

Install the latest version of the Rainbow Technologies Sentinel System Driver, available from the SafeNet website atwww.safenet-inc.com/support/tech/sentinel.asp , and then restart your computer.

Additional Information

Acrobat Capture uses the Rainbow Technologies Sentinel hardware key and drivers to track page counting. The hardware key driver included with Acrobat Capture 2.0 and Acrobat Capture 3.0 PE is not compatible with Windows 2000.

Acrobat Capture 3.01, which contains the Rainbow Technologies Sentinel System Driver version 5.38.x, is compatible with Windows 2000.
