Changing the B5 Paper Size to JIS B5 in FrameMaker

In Adobe FrameMaker, the B5 page size is set according to the standards of the International Organization for Standardization (ISO): The height is 25.0 cm and the width is 17.6 cm. You can set the B5 page size according to the standards of the Japanese Industry Standard (JIS), for which the height is 25.7 cm and the width is 18.2 cm.

Settings for page sizes in FrameMaker are stored as follows:

- in the pagesize.cfg file (Windows)

- in the pagesizes file (UNIX)

- in a compiled module file for each user interface language (Mac OS)

To change the B5 page size from the ISO standard to the JIS standard:

-- In Windows or UNIX, modify the settings in the page size file:

1. Close FrameMaker.

2. Locate the page size file:

- In Windows, locate the pagesize.cfg file in the FrameMaker 5.x\fminit folder.

- In UNIX, locate the pagesizes file in the $FMhome/fminit/[user interface language] directory.

3. Make a backup copy of the file.

4. Open the original file in a text editor (e.g., Notepad or vi). In Windows, some text editors may require that you first add a ".txt" extension to the filename.

5. Locate the entry for B5.

6. Change the Height value from "25.0cm" to "25.7cm" and the Width value from "17.6cm" to "18.2cm".

7. Close the file and restore its original name.

Before attempting the following procedure, you should have experience using a resource editing utility, because incorrect changes can seriously damage a file. You should modify a backup copy of the file so that you can revert to the original if problems occur.

1. Close FrameMaker.

2. In the FrameMaker:Modules folder, locate the UIL file you are using. For example,

- EnglishInterface is the UIL file for U.S. English.

- DESchnittstellendatei is the UIL file for German.

- FRInterface is the UIL file for French.

3. Drag the UIL file onto ResEdit.

4. Double-click the PAGS area of the ResEdit UIL window.

5. Double-click ID#263.

6. Change the second word pair from "01F2 (17.6cm)" to "0203 (18.2cm)".

7. Change the fourth word pair from 02C4 (25.0cm) to 02D8 (25.706cm).

8. Quit ResEdit, saving changes.

9. Restart FrameMaker.
