FrameMaker Shortcuts Don't Work on Keyboard Configured for Non-U.S. English Language

Issue

Some keyboard shortcuts don't work as expected in Adobe FrameMaker for Windows. For example, Ctrl+Alt+U or AltGr+U doesn't capitalize text but instead inserts the character "."

Detail

The keyboard is configured to use a language other than U.S. English.

Solutions

Do one or both of the following:

Solution 1

Redefine the keyboard shortcuts to use different key sequences. For instructions, see the "Changing Menus and Commands" section of the Customizing FrameMaker Productsonline manual (Customizing_Frame_Products.pdf).

Solution 2

Instead of pressing Ctrl+Alt+U or AltGr+U to capitalize text, use the Capitalization dialog box, accessible by pressing Esc E Shift+C.

Additional Information

If a keyboard language isn't U.S. English, Windows reserves some Ctrl+Alt (or AltGr) key sequences for accented characters. As a result, you cannot use these key sequences for keyboard shortcuts in FrameMaker or other applications.

Ctrl+Alt is equivalent to the AltGr key on European keyboards.
