Mouse wheel button works incorrectly when you scroll in FrameMaker (on Windows)

Issue

When you press the wheel button of a Microsoft Windows compatible mouse, a section of the Adobe FrameMaker document is highlighted and FrameMaker no longer responds to the mouse, or the document does not scroll when you use the mouse wheel function.

Solutions

Do one or more of the following solutions:

Solution 1: Install the FrameMaker 7.1p114 update.

For improved use of mouse wheel scrolling, download the FrameMaker 7.1p114 update from the Adobe website at www.adobe.com/support/downloads .

Solution 2: Click outside FrameMaker.

Regain mouse control by clicking outside FrameMaker (for example, on the desktop) and then clicking inside FrameMaker or pressing a key.

Solution 3: Use AutoScroll.

AutoScroll in FrameMaker by placing the pointer over the document scroll bar and then autoscrolling.

Solution 4: Replace IntelliPoint mouse software with Logitech MouseWare.

Remove the IntelliPoint mouse software according to the instructions in the Microsoft Pointing Device User's Guide. Then install Logitech MouseWare, which you can download from the Logitech Web site at www.logitech.com/cf/support/mousefiles.cfm .

Solution 5: Disable the wheel button.

Disable the wheel button globally or in FrameMaker only:

Note: This procedure disables the wheel button but not the wheel, which you can continue to use for scrolling. Adobe doesn't support the IntelliMouse but provides these instructions as a courtesy.

1. Choose Start > Programs > Microsoft Mouse.

2. In the Mouse Properties dialog box, click the Buttons tab.

3. Disable the wheel button:

-- To disable it globally, choose None from the Wheel Button pop-up menu, and then click OK.

-- To disable it in FrameMaker only:

a. Select Enable Program-Specific Button Settings.

b. Click Settings, and then click Add.

c. Navigate to the folder in which FrameMaker is installed, select the FrameMaker.exe file, and click Open.

d. Choose None from the Wheel Button pop-up menu, and then click OK.

e. Click OK.

Background information

If the IntelliPoint mouse software is installed, the wheel button of an IntelliMouse is configured by default to use the AutoScroll function. The AutoScroll function from this software isn't compatible with FrameMaker.

By design, FrameMaker highlights a section of a document when you click the middle mouse button, similar to when you Shift-click.
