Error "\AutoPlay\LangData\xx_XX\lang.dat" followed by "data_file_version" when you install Adobe Premiere Elements 2.0 or 3.0 (Windows XP)

Issue

When you try to install the English, French, or German version of Adobe Premiere Elements 2.0 or 3.0 the installer returns the following error message and then quits:

"\AutoPlay\LangData\xx_XX\lang.dat", "data_file_version".

Details

You are running a Dutch, Finnish, Danish, Norwegian, Italian, Spanish, Russian, Japanese and Korean version of Windows XP.

When prompted to select a language, the installer doesn't let you choose a language, as expected; only one language option is available. The language option available depends on the language of the operating system.

Solution: Run the Setup.exe file in the Premiere Elements folder to install Adobe Premiere Elements.

1. Insert the Adobe Premiere Elements DVD.

2. Click Cancel in the Installer dialog.

2. Navigate to the DVD-ROM drive, and browse to the Premiere Elements folder.

3. Open the Premiere Elements folder.

4. Double-click Setup.exe, and then follow the on-screen instructions.

Note: Do not run the Setup.exe file located on the root directory of the Adobe Premiere Elements DVD; this Setup.exe file starts AutoPlay and also causes the error.

Background information

The Adobe Premiere Elements 2.0 and 3.0 AutoPlay, which runs the installer, only works correctly when the language of the operating system matches one of the supported languages on the application DVD. Therefore, you must bypass AutoPlay to install the English version of Adobe Premiere Elements 2.0 and 3.0 on certain language versions of Windows XP.
