Error "...[font name] cannot be embedded due to licensing restrictions" occurs in Acrobat Distiller (6.0 and 7.0)

Issue

Adobe Acrobat Distiller returns the following error when processing a PostScript file:

"%%[ ProductName: Distiller ]%%

%%[ Error: [font name] cannot be embedded due to licensing restrictions.]%%

%%[ Error: invalidfont; OffendingCommand: (varies) ]%%"

The OffendingCommand in the error may be "xshow," "show," or "ashow."

Solutions

Do one of the following:

Solution 1: Export the source file to PDF.

Export the source file to Adobe PDF from the source application instead of creating and processing a PostScript file.

Solution 2: Install the WordPerfect Office 2000 Symbols Fonts Update.

If you use Corel WordPerfect, install the WordPerfect Office 2000 Symbols Fonts Update, which you can download from the Corel website at www.corel.com , and then re-create the PDF file.

Solution 3: Format the text with a different font.

Format the text in the original file with a different font that doesn't have a licensing restriction, and then re-create the PostScript file.

Solution4: Change the Acrobat Distiller job options.

Change Acrobat Distiller job options so it does not embed fonts:

1. Choose Settings > Job Options.

2. Click the Fonts tab and deselect the Embed All Fonts option.

3. Distill the PostScript file again. The fonts will be simulated by Acrobat on systems that don't have the font installed.

Note: Acrobat Distiller and Acrobat PDFWriter are designed to automatically embed all symbol fonts, since symbol fonts cannot be substituted. If a font contains characters other than letters, or does not use a standard character map, Acrobat Distiller and Acrobat PDFWriter may interpret it as a symbol font. This means that Acrobat Distiller and Acrobat PDFWriter will try to embed the font, even if you have deselected the Embed All Fonts option. You cannot prevent Acrobat Distiller and Acrobat PDFWriter from trying to embed symbol fonts.

Solution 5: Create the PDF file by using the WordPerfect Publish to PDF command.

If you created the original file in Corel WordPerfect 9 or later, and the file contains WordPerfect TrueType fonts only, create the PDF file using the WordPerfect Publish To PDF command. For instructions, refer to the WordPerfect documentation.

Disclaimer: Adobe does not support using the WordPerfect Publish To PDF command. Refer to your WordPerfect documentation for information about this command, and refer to your WordPerfect font license agreement for details about whether embedding these fonts is permitted.
