Choosing either the .bin or .hqx format for downloaded files

When you download Macintosh files from the Adobe website or FTP site, you may be given a choice of two different file formats: ".bin" or ".hqx."

The .bin file downloads faster but is less compatible with older systems. The .hqx file takes longer to download but is more compatible with older systems.

To determine whether you can successfully download and open .bin files, download the Compatibility Test for .bin Files (bintest.bin) from the Adobe website at www.adobe.com/support/downloads/detail.jsp?ftpID=163 . If you can run the Compatibility Test successfully, you can download .bin files instead of .hqx files to minimize your download times.

Note:Adobe does not support third-party software, including, but not limited to, file compression and decompression software such as StuffIt Expander by Allume Systems, Inc.
