Error "Adobe Premiere Pro has encountered a problem and needs to close...." when you start Premiere Pro Help.

Issue

When you attempt to start the Adobe Premiere Pro Help, Premiere Pro returns the following error message and closes:

"Adobe Premiere Pro has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience."

Solutions

Do one of the following solutions:

Solution 1: Upgrade to Adobe Premiere Pro 2.0.

Adobe Premiere Pro 2.0 uses the Adobe Help Center and is not susceptible to this issue.

Solution 2: Reset the permissions for registry key Help.

For Premiere Pro 1.0:

1. Open the Windows Registry editor by selecting Start > Run and typing regedit in the Open text box. Click OK to start the registry editor.

2. Navigate to the following registry address: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Adobe\Premiere\7.0\Help.

3. Right-click the Help key and select Permissions.

4. From the Permissions For Help window, select each Group or User name and set Permissions to Allow Full Control. Click Apply and OK to save the changes and close the window.

5. Close the Registry Editor.

For Premiere Pro 1.5:

1. Open the Windows Registry editor by selecting Start > Run and typing regedit in the Open text box. Click OK to start the registry editor.

2. Navigate to the following registry address: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Adobe\Premiere Pro\1.5\Help.

3. Right-click the Help key and select Permissions.

4. From the Permissions For Help window, select each Group or User name and set Permissions to Allow Full Control. Click Apply and OK to save the changes and close the window.

5. Close the Registry Editor.

If no Group or User names are available from the Permissions For Help window, groups or users for the local system may be added by using the following steps:

1. In the Permissions For Help window, click Add. The Select Users, Computers, Or Groups window will open.

2. Click Locations and select the computer from the list of available locations. Click OK.

3. In the Select Users Or Groups window, click Advanced, and then click Find Now.

4. A list of users and groups will be listed at the bottom of the screen. Select the appropriate user or group and click OK.

5. Repeat steps 1 through 4 until all wanted users and/or groups have been added.
