Filename contains underscore when downloaded from Adobe site with Internet Explorer

Issue

You can't open or decompress a file downloaded from Adobe's Web site or FTP site if it has an underscore instead of a period preceding the extension in its filename. For example, the filename is "Fmttalk_tar.Z" instead of "Fmttalk.tar.Z" as expected.

Details

The file was downloaded in Windows 95, Windows 98, or Windows NT 4.0 or later.

Solution

Rename the downloaded file. (You can see the correct filename on the Web or FTP page from which the file was downloaded.)

Additional Information

When downloading files, Internet Explorer may convert periods to underscores in filenames that have more than one period. Your operating system or decompression utility may be unable to open or decompress files whose filenames contain underscores before their extensions, instead of periods as expected.
