How to Reference No Page Numbers When Converting a Generated List to HTML in FrameMaker 5.5.x
Generated lists in Adobe FrameMaker 5.5.x (e.g., Table of Contents, List of Tables, or List of Figures) have page numbers for each entry. A generated list converted to HTML does not need those page numbers. Using conditional text, you can hide the page numbers before converting the file to HTML.
To hide page numbers on a generated list before converting the file to HTML, create and conditionalize a <$nopage> entry on the reference pages:
1. In FrameMaker, open the file that contains the generated list.
2. Choose View > Reference pages, then scroll down to the <$paratext><$pagenum>entries for the generated list.
3. Type "<$nopage>" after the first <$paratext><$pagenum>entry. Repeat for every other <$paratext><$pagenum> entry. Each one should look like this:
<$paratext><$pagenum><$nopage>
4.Highlight the first <$pagenum>entry, then choose Special > Conditional Text.
5. Click Edit Condition Tag.
6. Type Page# in the Tag field, select As Is from the Condition Indicators pop-up menus, then click Set.
7.Move Page# to the In list: select Page# and then click the left arrow. Click Apply.
8. Highlight the next <$pagenum> entry on the reference page, then repeat step 7. Repeat for remaining <$pagenum> entries.
9. Highlight the first <$nopage>entry on the reference page; then, in the Conditional Text dialog box, click Edit Condition Tag.
10. Type HTML in the Tag field, select As Is from the Condition Indicators pop-up menus, then click Set.
11. Move HTML to the In column. Click Apply.
12. Highlight the next <$nopage> entry and repeat step 11. Repeat for remaining <$nopage> entries.
13. Click Show/Hide.
14. Move Page# to the Hide list, and leave HTML in the Show list.
15. Click Set, then close the Conditional Text dialog box.
16. Save and close the file.
17. Re-generate the list. The page numbers no longer appear.
18. Save the file as HTML.
To display page numbers again, hide the HTML condition tag and show the Page# tag, then re-generate the list.
