Separating EPS files in FrameMaker

FrameMaker can separate EPS line-art as either spot color or process color. However, FrameMaker can separate DCS 1.0 as process color only. The following restrictions apply to printing separations of EPS files from FrameMaker 4.x, 5.x, and 5.5 for Windows and UNIX, and FrameMaker 4.x for Mac OS:

- Overprint modeis not supported for individual objects within the EPSF image. Overprint is only supported within FrameMaker for entire FrameMaker objects using FrameMaker's overprint setting.

- Tints are not supported for spot color separations, but are supported for process color separations. For example, using the Blend tool in Illustrator, it is possible to specify a blend that goes from a 0% tint (white) to 100% tint of a custom color. Although FrameMaker will import the custom color by name, it will not correctly separate all tints of that color onto the appropriate plate. However, if you add the custom color to FrameMaker's Print as Process list, all tints will be simulated correctly with the appropriate cyan, magenta, yellow, and black values throughout the blend.

- Bitmap images in EPS files will separate. As a general rule, FrameMaker will separate a bitmap in an EPS file if Adobe Illustrator can separate it. However, complex images may not separate.

- FrameMaker separates EPS files by CMYK color value rather than by color name. This is not a concern unless you intend to separate two colors where all four of the cyan, magenta, yellow, and black components differ by .1% or less. Colored objects with CMYK components that differ by less than this .1% tolerance will all be placed on the same plate.
