Error "Print Setting for <color> is inconsistent in <filename>" When Printing or Updating a Book File in FrameMaker 5.x
Issue
When you print or update a book file, Adobe FrameMaker returns the error, "Print setting for color <color> is inconsistent in <filename>."
Solutions
Do one of the following:
Solution 1
If you are printing the book file to a desktop printer, you can ignore the error message; the file will print correctly.
Solution 2
Change the printing plate assignments so they are consistent across all files in the book:
1. Open the FrameMaker book file, and then open the first file in the book.
2. Click on the book window, or choose the book file from the Window menu, to make the book window active.
3. Choose File > Import > Formats.
4. In the Import From Document pop-up menu, choose the first file in the book.
5. Select Color Definitions, and deselect all other options.
6. Move all of the files from the Don't Update field to the Update field.
7. Click Import, and then update the book file.
Note: This procedure will not change the print settings for colors whose definitions aren't consistent amongst all files in a book. For example, if the color "wild_green" is used several files in the book, but has a different definition than that in the first file in the book, FrameMaker will still return the error when you print or update the book.
Additional Information
The Print As Spot and Don't Print scroll boxes in the Plate Assignment section in FrameMaker's Set Print Separations dialog box enable you to specify which colors to include when printing separations. When one or more colors has a different Plate Assignment setting in the first file in the book than in other files in the book, FrameMaker will return an error when you print or update the book file. For example, FrameMaker will return an error if White is listed in the Print As Spot field in the first file in the book, but is listed in the Don't Print field in a subsequent file in the book. However, if Print Separations is selected in the book file's print dialog box, FrameMaker will not return an error, because the book settings override individual document settings when you print separations.
