How to Convert FrameMaker 5.5 for UNIX Documents to PDF with fmbatch or fmprint

The fmbatch and fmprint utilities in Adobe FrameMaker 5.5 and later for UNIX let you automate or batch process basic FrameMaker functions (e.g., saving documents in other formats, printing documents). Although fmbatch does not let you save FrameMaker documents as HTML or PDF, fmbatch and fmprint let you print documents to PDF. (You can automate conversion to HTML via an FDK client.)

To convert documents to PDF with fmbatch or fmprint:

1. In the Print dialog box, set up a print settings file in which Generate Acrobat Data is selected and the Destination pop-up menu is set to PDF File. Then click Save Settings Only.

Note: You can also set up these options in each individual FrameMaker document.

2. Run fmbatch or fmprint to print the documents to PDF. Use the print settings file if one was created. See Further Reading for more information.
