Hypertext Links Go Only to the First Page of the File After Converting a FrameMaker Book File to PDF

Issue

Hypertext links between files in an Adobe FrameMaker 5.0-5.1.2 book do not link correctly when the book is converted to PDF. When you view the PDF file in an Adobe Acrobat product (such as Acrobat or Acrobat Reader), and then click a link, the product opens to the first page of the file that contains the link instead of the page containing the link.

Detail

The book file was printed to individual PostScript files using "*" (asterisk) as the filename.

Solutions

Do one of the following:

Solution 1

Print all files in the book to individual PostScript files (using "*" as the filename) in a single print job. In the print files in book dialog, ensure all files are in the Print column.

Solution 2

Open and print each file in the book to PostScript individually, then distill each of the PostScript files individually.

Solution 3

Print all files in the book to one PostScript file.

Additional Information

When files in a book are printed to individual PostScript files in multiple print jobs (for example, chapters 1-5 are printed in one job, and chapters 6-10 are printed in another job), FrameMaker does not maintain links between the book files if the PostScript files use "*" as the filename.
