Importing Illustrator Graphics into FrameMaker 5.x or 6.0
You can import an Adobe Illustrator graphic into an Adobe FrameMaker 5.x or 6.0 document if the graphic is saved in Illustrator EPS format. You can import across platforms as well; for example, you can save the Illustrator graphic on a Macintosh and import it into FrameMaker for Windows.
Saving the Graphic for Use in FrameMaker
If you use FrameMaker in a UNIX system displaying on a X11 server that supports Display PostScript (DPS), the appearance of the imported EPS graphic is the same as in Illustrator. If you use FrameMaker in Windows, Mac OS, or a UNIX system displaying on a X11 server that doesn't support DPS (such as HPUX, or X emulators like eXceed, eXcursion, or XVision), the appearance of the imported Illustrator EPS graphic depends on the type of preview you choose when you save the graphic in Illustrator: 8-bit preview, 1-bit preview, or no preview. An 8-bit preview may appear pixelated and rough. A 1-bit may also be pixelated and is black and white. Saving the EPS graphic without a preview causes it to appear as a gray box in FrameMaker. However, the EPS graphic prints to a PostScript printer as it does from Illustrator, whatever its on-screen appearance.
To save an Illustrator file as Illustrator EPS graphic:
1. Open the file in Illustrator.
2. Choose File> Save As.
3. Add ".eps" to the name.
4. In the Save In pop-up menu, choose the location where you wish to save the new file.
5. Choose Illustrator EPS from the Save As Type pop-up menu.
6. Click Save. The EPS Format dialog box appears.
7. Do one of the following:
-- Save the EPS graphic without a preview by selecting None in the Preview section.
-- Save the EPS graphic with a 1-bit preview by selecting 1-bit IBM PC in the Preview section.
-- Save the EPS graphic with an 8-bit preview by selecting 8-bit IBM PC in the Preview section.
8. Click OK.
Importing the Graphic into FrameMaker
If you import the EPS graphic into FrameMaker by dragging it or if the EPS graphic appears as a gray box, FrameMaker doesn't flow text around the graphic.
If you import the EPS graphic into FrameMaker by choosing File > Import > File, FrameMaker lets text flow around the graphic shape if the EPS graphic appears on-screen. You can cause FrameMaker to flow text around the bounding box of the graphic by changing the runaround properties:
To change the runaround properties:
1. Select the graphic in FrameMaker.
2. Choose Graphics > Runaround Properties.
3. Choose Run around Bounding Box.
4. Click OK.
