Spelling Checker Not Questioning Misspelled Words in FrameMaker 5.x

Issue

The Spelling Checker in Adobe FrameMaker 5.x does not question words that are spelled incorrectly.

Solutions

Do one or more of the following:

Solution 1

In the Spelling Checker, click Options. Examine the Find and Ignore sections of the Options dialog box to make sure no items are erroneously selected or deselected.

Solution 2

Make sure that your document is not formatted completely in superscript or subscript text. To do so, highlight a section of text, open the Character Designer and Paragraph Designer, and make sure that Superscript or Subscript is not selected in either.

Solution 3

Open the Paragraph Designer and make sure that Language is not set to None for any paragraph whose spelling you wish to check. To find the Language setting:

- in FrameMaker 5.0 to 5.2, choose Advanced from the Properties pop-up menu.

- in FrameMaker 5.5.x, choose Default Font from the Properties pop-up menu.

Solution 4

In the Spelling Checker, click Dictionaries. Select "Mark All Paragraphs for Rechecking," choose Set to None from the Personal Dictionary pop-up menu, and choose Document Dictionary in the "Clear" pop-up menu in that order.

Additional Information

The Spelling Checker overlooks text that is subscripted, superscripted, kerned, vertically micropositioned, or has a Language setting of None.
