Obtain a list of the paragraph tags in a FrameMaker document

You can obtain a list of the paragraph tags used in an Adobe FrameMaker document by generating an alphabetical list of paragraphs:

1. Open your document, then choose Special > List of... > Elements & Paragraphs (Alphabetical).

2. Choose yes to create a stand-alone list, or choose No to create a new book containing the document and the list.

3. Hold down the Shift key and click on the left arrow to move all of the paragraph tags to the Include Paragraphs Tagged list.

4. Click Add, then click Update.

5. In the APL file, choose View > Reference Pages, and then scroll down to the APL reference page.

6. Choose Edit > Find/Change.

7. Change all occurrences of the string "<$paratext>" to "<$paratag>":

a. Highlight all the text in the text frame on the APL reference page.

b. In the Find/Change dialog box, select Text from the Find menu and type <$paratext> in the Find text box.

c. From the Change menu, select To Text and type <$paratag> in the Change text box.

d. Enable the Selection option, and then click Change All In.

8. If you want to remove page numbers from the APL file, find the text "<$pagenum>" and change it to nothing.

9. Save the APL file.

10. In your original document, regenerate the APL file.

To generate a list of paragraph tags used in an Adobe FrameMaker book:

1. Open your book file, then choose Add > List of... > Elements & Paragraphs (Alphabetical).

2. Choose Yes to create a stand-alone list, or choose No to create a new book containing the document and the list.

3. Hold down the Shift key and click on the left arrow to move all of the paragraph tags to the Include Paragraphs Tagged list.

4. Click Add, then click Update.

5. In the APL file, choose View > Reference Pages, and then scroll down to the APL reference page.

6. Choose Edit > Find/Change.

7. Change all occurrences of the string "<$paratext>" to "<$paratag>":

a. Highlight all the text in the text frame on the APL reference page.

b. In the Find/Change dialog box, select Text from the Find menu and type <$paratext> in the Find text box.

c. From the Change menu, select To Text and type <$paratag> in the Change text box.

d. Enable the Selection option, and then click Change All In.

8. If you want to remove page numbers from the APL file, find the text "<$pagenum>" and change it to nothing.

9. Save the APL file.

10. In your original document, regenerate the APL file.
