Importing Page Layouts Without Variable Definitions in FrameMaker 5

In FrameMaker 5, the text that displays from variables on master pages does not change when you import page layouts without variable definitions from another document. Thus, the variable definitions and the text that displays from them are kept in sync.

This behavior is different from previous versions of FrameMaker. When you import page layouts without variable definitions in FrameMaker 4 and earlier, the text that displays from variables on master pages changes to that of the document from which you imported formats. But since variable definitions do not change, the text displayed from variables is not in sync with the variable definitions. Updating variables does not change their definition to match the text. You must replace the variables in order for the text to match the variable definition.
