FrameMaker 5.1.1 Does Not Link Objects Inserted with Paste Special Command
Issue
When you insert an OLE object using the Paste Special command, Adobe FrameMaker 5.1.1 for Windows 95 or Windows NT embeds the object but does not link to the application that created the object. The link does not appear in the Links dialog box.
Solutions
Do one of the following:
Solution 1
Use FrameMaker 5.1.2 or later. For information on upgrading to the current version, visit Adobe's Web site at www.adobe.com/products/framemaker/main.html .
Solution 2
Insert the object using the Import > Object command:
Note:This method creates a link to an entire file. It is not possible to link to an individual graphic or portion of text.
1 Choose File > Import > Object.
2. Select Create from File; then select Link.
3. Click Browse to find the file.
4. Select the file; then click Insert.
Solution 3
Paste the object into WordPad; then copy the object from WordPad into FrameMaker:
1. Copy the object from the original application.
2. Choose Start > Programs > Accessories > WordPad.
3. In WordPad, choose Edit > Paste Special, select Paste Link, then click OK.
4. Select the pasted object and choose Edit > Copy.
5. In FrameMaker, paste the object using the Paste Special command and enable the Link option.
Additional Information
FrameMaker 5.1.1 for Windows 95 and Windows NT does not create a link to an OLE object's source application if you insert the object using the Paste Special command. FrameMaker 5.1.2 and later creates the link as expected.
FrameMaker 5.1.1 creates the link if you insert an OLE object using the Import > Object command or if you paste the object into WordPad and then copy it into FrameMaker.
