Forcing the Unknown File Type Dialog Box to Appear in FrameMaker 5.x for UNIX
When importing a graphic file into Adobe FrameMaker 5.x for UNIX, FrameMaker automatically determines the format of the graphic file and converts it to a format that can be displayed and printed in FrameMaker. For some graphic formats, FrameMaker offers more than one filter.
For example, when you import PICT graphic files into FrameMaker 5.1x, FrameMaker converts it to FrameVector format by default. However, FrameMaker 5.1x also offers a PICT to MIF (Maker Interchange Format) filter. To be able to choose a particular filter, you must force FrameMaker to display the Unknown File Type dialog box.
Set the X resource "Maker*forceFileTypeChoices" to True in the $HOME/.Xdefaults file, then restart FrameMaker:
1. Create a backup copy of the $HOME/.Xdefaults file.
2. Open the original $HOME/.Xdefaults file in a text editor that can save in text-only format.
3. Add the following statement to the file:
Maker*forceFileTypeChoices: True
4. Save the $HOME/.Xdefaults file in text-only format.
5. Load the $HOME/.Xdefaults file by typing:
xrdb -l $HOME/.Xdefaults
6. Restart FrameMaker.
