Suppress Automatic Reference Updating Works in Current Session Only in FrameMaker 5.x
Issue
When you select Suppress Automatic Reference Updating at the book level and then exit the session, Adobe FrameMaker 5.x does not prompt you to save changes. When you reopen the book file, Suppress Automatic Reference Updating is deselected again.
Detail
You opened all the files in the book at once by holding down the Shift key and choosing Open All Files in Book, or by pressing Esc f O.
Solution
If you are using FrameMaker 5.x for Windows or UNIX, save the book file using the keyboard shortcut Esc f s.
If you are using FrameMaker 5.x for Mac OS:
Choose Edit > Suppress Automatic Reference Updating each time you open the book.
OR: Save the book file to Interchange (MIF) format each time that you need to save the book.
Additional Information
FrameMaker 5.x automatically updates cross-references and text insets upon opening files. You can prevent the automatic updating by selecting Suppress Automatic Reference Updating from the book file window. Selecting Suppress Automatic Reference Updating does not cause the book to require a save; therefore, if you close the book without saving changes and then reopen the book, this option is deselected once again.
When you force a save of the book file using the Esc f s keyboard shortcut, Suppress Automatic Reference Updating is saved with the book. This keyboard shortcut does not work with FrameMaker running on a Mac OS.
