Autonumber Disappears After Opening MIF File in FrameMaker 5

Issue

Autonumbering in an MIF file disappears after you open the file in FrameMaker 5. Only one paragraph in the file used autonumbering.

Solutions

Do one or more of the following:

A. Apply a different paragraph tag to the autonumbered paragraph, then reapply the original paragraph tag:

1. Choose Format > Paragraph > Catalog.

2. Click your insertion point in the paragraph that should have an autonumber.

3. Select a different paragraph tag in the Paragraph Catalog, then reselect the original paragraph tag.

B. Put your cursor at the end of the autonumbered paragraph, then press the return key repeatedly until the autonumber reappears.

Additional Information

When you open an MIF (Maker Interchange Format) file that has only one autonumbered paragraph in FrameMaker 5, the autonumber disappears. To avoid this problem, save the document in Normal (binary) format, or apply an autonumber to more than one paragraph before saving the document as an MIF file.
