This document describes how to set up license servers for multiple versions of Adobe FrameMaker on UNIX.
Set up a single license server for FrameMaker 7.x and an earlier version of FrameMaker
To set up a single workstation as the license server for FrameMaker 7.x and earlier:
1. Create a backup copy of the licenses file in the install_dir/fminit directory, where "install_dir" is the earlier version of FrameMaker installation directory.
2. Copy the older licenses file to the FrameMaker 7.x fminit directory.
3. Quit any current sessions of FrameMaker; kill the fm_fls process currently running on the license server, and any fm_flb processes running on machines that run FrameMaker.
4. Run fmsetupfls from the FrameMaker 7.x directory by typing the following:
cd $FMHOME
./bin/fmsetupfls
5. When fmsetupfls starts the fmaddlicense program, type list to verify that the older licenses are recognized by FrameMaker 7.x.
6. Add the FrameMaker 7.x licenses per the instructions in the installation manual.
7. When the fmsetupfls script asks if you would like to start the license server process, type Yes.
8. After the fmsetupfls script finishes setting up the license server, copy or link the following four files from the FrameMaker 7.x fminit directory to the install_dir/fminit directory (where "install_dir" is the earlier version of FrameMaker installation directory):
-- licenses
-- env.csh
-- env.sh
-- fm_fls_auto
Note: You must run fmsetupfls from the FrameMaker 7.x directory in order to run FrameMaker 7.x and an earlier version of FrameMaker (4.x-6.x). Earlier versions of FrameMaker will not recognize FrameMaker 7.x registration numbers, and the fm_fls process will not start.
Set up license servers for multiple versions of FrameMaker 7.x
If you use the license server that installs with FrameMaker 7.1 or 7.2, Adobe recommends that you do not install licenses from earlier versions of 7.x on the same server. To make all licenses available, you must set up two separate license servers (FM_FLS_HOST): one for each version of FrameMaker 7.x. Users obtain the license from the license server by changing the link in $HOME/fminit/env.sh ( env.csh) to point to the env.sh of the appropriate license server. For more information about setting up license servers and using shared licenses, see the FrameMaker Installation Guide for UNIX included with FrameMaker.
Use shared licenses
You can run only as many copies of FrameMaker as the number of licenses you have purchased. For example, if you originally purchased 10 licenses for FrameMaker 6.0and subsequently upgraded 7 of them to FrameMaker 7.0, you can still run only 10 copies of FrameMaker. Running 17 copies violates the licensing agreement.
