Text in FrameMaker 5 for Windows Appears Poor On-screen at 100% Zoom
Issue
When you set the magnification (zoom) setting to 100% in a document window in Adobe FrameMaker 5 for Windows, text in the document is jagged.
Solution
Set the MonitorSize statement to "0in" in the Maker.ini file:
1. Make a backup copy of the Maker.ini file, which is in the FrameMaker installation folder.
2. Open the original Maker.ini file in a text editor that can save in text-only format (e.g., Notepad).
3. Under the Preferences section, set the MonitorSize statement to "0in." For example:
MonitorSize=0in
4. Save the Maker.ini file in text-only format.
5. Restart FrameMaker.
Additional Information
The FrameMaker 5 for Windows installer detects the size of your monitor and places this value into the "MonitorSize" statement in the Maker.ini file. When the MonitorSize is set to the actual size of your monitor and the magnification is set to 100%, FrameMaker displays the text on-screen at a font size that matches the text on the printed page. While text appears as expected on the printed page, it is often hard to read on-screen. This issue is evident in the FrameMaker tutorial, online Help, and overview, since their magnifications are set to 100%.
Setting the MonitorSize statement in the Maker.ini file to "0in" enables FrameMaker to display a smaller portion of the page in a larger font, so that text doesn't appear jagged.
