ColdFusion MX 7: 500 null error when running ColdFusion pages

Issue


ColdFusion MX 7 pages fail with a 500 NULL error in a browser. The following error is written to the server.log:

 "Information","main","08/10/05","17:44:22",,"An error has occurred when reading/writing <cfroot>/lib/license.properties" "Fatal","main","08/10/05","17:44:25",,"" "Error","main","08/10/05","17:44:25",,"Unable to initialize License service: coldfusion.server.ServiceException" 

Reason


This error can be caused when the license.properties configuration file contains zero bytes or has been deleted. The license.properties file is located in the cf_root\lib directory on Unix and Windows servers.

Macromedia is currently investigating the cause of this issue. It is logged as Macromedia issue 57260.

Solution


  1. Stop the ColdFusion MX 7 Application Server service.
  2. Copy a new license.properties file from a backup copy or from another server to the cf_root\lib directory.
  3. Restart the ColdFusion MX 7 Application Server service.
