Unable to Export Document Containing Text Insets to RTF from FrameMaker 5.0

Issue

When you try to export a document that contains text insets to RTF (Rich Text Format) from FrameMaker 5.0, one of the following occurs:

- In Mac OS, FrameMaker creates an RTF file whose size is 0 bytes.

- In Windows, FrameMaker returns the error, "Save failed: ....filename.rtf. A system error has occurred while saving a file. Your file system may be full. If so, your file cannot be completely written. Try saving your file on a different file system."

- In UNIX, FrameMaker returns a system error, followed by the error, "Syntax Error in MIF file."

Solutions

Do one of the following:

Solution 1

Use FrameMaker 5.0.1 or later. For information on upgrading to the current version, visit Adobe's Web site at www.adobe.com/products/framemaker/main.html .

Solution 2

Convert all the text insets to text before exporting the document to RTF:

1. Double-click one of the text insets to open the Text Insets Properties dialog box.

2. Click Convert to Text.

3. Click All Text Insets, then click Convert.

4. Export the document to RTF.

Solution 3

Delete all text insets in the document before exporting the document to RTF.

Additional Information

FrameMaker 5.0 is unable to export documents containing text insets (i.e., text imported by reference) to RTF. This issue does not occur in FrameMaker 5.0.1 and later.
