Numbers Are Out of Sequence in a FrameMaker Index

Issue

Numbers sort out of sequence in an Adobe FrameMaker index.

Solution

Add text in brackets at the end of each incorrectly sorted index marker's text indicating how you want the entry sorted. For example, to sort 1 to 10 in ascending sequence, add the following to the markers for numbers 1 through 9:

[0X]

where "X" is the number. The bracketed text for the nine markers should look like this:

[01], [02], [03], [04], [05], [06], [07], [08], [09]

Additional Information

In FrameMaker, you can insert sorting information in square brackets at the end of the marker text. The information in the brackets is for sorting purposes only. Without it, numbers sort according to the first digit. For example, the numbers 1 through 15 sort 1, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9. For more information, see the pages listed under "sort order, index" in the index of the Adobe FrameMaker User Guide.
