Conditional Text Inconsistency Error Messages When Printing or Updating a FrameMaker Book File

Issue

When you print or update a book file, Adobe FrameMaker returns one or more of the following errors:

- "Use Condition Indicators setting is inconsistent in <filename>."

- "Condition indicator for <conditional text tag name> is inconsistent in <filename>."

- "Show/Hide setting for <conditional text tag name> is inconsistent in <filename>."

Solutions

Do one of the following:

Solution 1

If FrameMaker returned the error, "Use Condition Indicators setting is inconsistent in <filename>:"

1. Open the FrameMaker book file, then open a document within the book.

2. Choose Special > Conditional Text.

3. Click Show/Hide, select Use Condition Indicators and then click Set.

4. Save the file, and then make the book window active by clicking on it or by choosing it from the Window menu.

5. Choose File > Import > Formats.

6. Choose <filename> from the Import From Document pop-up menu.

7. Select Conditional Text, and deselect all other formats or options.

8. Move all of the documents in the book to the Update field, and then click Import.

9. Update the book.

Solution 2

If FrameMaker returned the error, "Condition indicator for <conditional text tag name> is inconsistent in <filename>:"

1. Open the FrameMaker book file, and then open a document within the book.

2. Choose Special > Conditional Text.

3. Select the conditional text tag name, and then click Edit Condition Tag.

4. Apply the desired Style and Color, and then click Set.

5. Save the file, and then make the book window active by clicking on it or by choosing it from the Window menu.

6. Choose File > Import > Formats.

7. Choose <filename> from the Import From Document pop-up menu.

8. Select Conditional Text, and deselect all other formats or options.

9. Move all of the documents in the book to the Update field, and then click Import.

10. Update the book.

Solution 3

If FrameMaker returned the error, "Show/Hide setting for <conditional text tag name> is inconsistent in <filename>:"

1. Open the FrameMaker book file, and then open a document within the book.

2. Choose Special > Conditional Text.

3. Click Show/Hide, and then move the conditional text tag name to the Show or Hide field.

5. Click Set.

6. Save the file, and then make the book window active by clicking on it or by choosing it from the Window menu.

7. Choose File > Import > Formats.

8. Choose <filename> from the Import From Document pop-up menu.

9. Select Conditional Text, and deselect all other formats or options.

10. Move all of the documents in the book to the Update field, and then click Import.

11. Update the book.

Additional Information

When conditional text settings are not consistent amongst files in a FrameMaker book, FrameMaker returns an error. The error, "Use Condition Indicators setting is inconsistent in <filename>" message indicates that Show Condition Indicators is selected is only some of the documents in the book. The error, "Condition indicator for <conditional text tag name> is inconsistent in <filename>" indicates that Show Condition Indicators is selected in more than one file, and the actual Condition Indicators (style and/or color) are set differently for the same condition tag in the different documents. And the error, "Show/Hide setting for <conditional text tag name> is inconsistent in <filename>" indicates that some documents in the book have this particular condition tag in the Show column in the Special/Conditional Text/Show/Hide dialog box, while it's in the Hide column in all the other documents.
