How to Edit the Document Dictionary in FrameMaker

If you click "Allow in Document" in the Spelling Checker in Adobe FrameMaker, FrameMaker adds the highlighted word to the document dictionary. Alternately, you can determine which words are in the document dictionary and selectively remove them. To do so, save the file in MIF format and then edit the *.mif file. The words appear in the *.mif file as "OKWord" statements in the Dictionary section. For example, if you added the words "lucki" and "lemonhead" to the document dictionary, they appear in the *.mif file as follows:

<Dictionary

<OKWord `lucki'>

<OKWord `lemonhead'>

> # end of Dictionary

To save the FrameMaker document in MIF format and edit the document dictionary:

1. In FrameMaker, choose File > Save As and save the document as a *.mif file.

2. Open the *.mif file in a text editor (e.g., Wordpad, SimpleText, or vi).

3. Search for "OKWord."

4. Remove one or more <OKWord> statements as desired.

5. Close the *.mif file, saving it in text-only format.

6. Open the *.mif file in FrameMaker and save it as a *.fm file.
