ZapfDingbats from ATM Deluxe 4.0 doesn't work in FrameMaker (5.1.x on Windows NT 4.0)
Issue
When you use Adobe ATM Deluxe for Windows NT 4.0 and Adobe FrameMaker 5.1.x for Windows NT, characters using the ZapfDingbats font appear as Wingdings.
Solutions
Do one or more of the following solutions:
Solution 1: Use FrameMaker 5.5 or later.
For information on upgrading to the current version, visit the Adobe website at www.adobe.com/products/framemaker/ .
Solution 2: Use a printer driver that does not have the ZapfDingbats font as a resident font.
Solution 3: Update the Zd______.pfm file by downloading the dingbats.exe patch.
The dingbats.exe patch is available from the following sources:
-- The Adobe website at www.adobe.com/support/downloads/product.jsp?product=22&platform=Windows
-- The Adobe FTP site at ftp.adobe.com/pub/adobe/framemaker/win/5.x/updaters
Note: Due to the re-encoding of the updated Zd______.pfm file, documents that were created in other applications and use the ZapfDingbats font may incorrectly display and print characters. If you experience this problem, move the original Zd______.pfm file back to the Psfonts\Pfm folder and then restart Windows.
Background information
When starting, FrameMaker enumerates the fonts available on the printer and saves each unique font structure. If the default printer has ZapfDingbats as a resident font and if ATM Deluxe for Windows NT is installed, FrameMaker recognizes the ATM ZapfDingbats font and the printer's ZapfDingbats font as two separate fonts. FrameMaker favors the printer's font and does not use the ATM font. FrameMaker, however, requires a display font and a printer font. If FrameMaker recognizes only the printer font, characters using the ZapfDingbats font appear as Wingdings on-screen. The ZapfDingbats characters print correctly.
The updated Zd______.pfm file for ZapfDingbats displays and prints ZapfDingbat characters correctly when you use a printer driver that has ZapfDingbats as a resident font. If your default printer does not have ZapfDingbats as a resident font, FrameMaker uses the ATM ZapfDingbats font.
This issue does not occur in FrameMaker 5.5 for Windows.
