Error "Internal Context Table Full" When Opening Files in FrameMaker
Issue
Adobe FrameMaker 5.1.2 or earlier returns the message, "Internal Context Table Full," when you open a file.
Solutions
Do one of the following:
Solution 1
Use FrameMaker 5.5 or later. For upgrade information, visit Adobe's Web site at www.adobe.com/products/framemaker/main.html .
Solution 2
Split the file up into several, smaller files, and put the files into a new book file.
Note: If the file is from an outside source (e.g., database, word processor.), check whether the file contains markers, cross-references, or user-defined variables that are not necessary for your application.
Solution 3
If the error occurs with a FrameMaker generated file (e.g., Table of Contents), generate the file with automatic hypertext markers turned off.
Additional Information
The internal context table is a memory construct that holds many types of FrameMaker document objects. The following table illustrates the different entries and their requirements:
element 2 entries
variable 2 entries
cross-reference 2 entries
marker (any type) 1 entry
table 1 entry
anchored frame 1 entry
hidden conditional text 1 entry per block
In FrameMaker 5.1.2 and earlier, the maximum number of entries in this table was 2^16 (65,535). In FrameMaker 5.5, this number was increased to 2^24 (16,777,216).
This message can occur when you are opening MIF files created by a third-party application, importing files from another application, or even when opening FrameMaker's generated files.
In generated files, each marker takes one entry, so the resulting list from a large book could contain more than the allowed number of entries. No warning appears during the list generation; the message occurs only when opening the file.
