Migration from Breeze 4.1 to Breeze 5
This TechNote covers information on migrating Breeze 4.1 accounts to Breeze 5.0 for both hosted and licensed accounts. The information applies to both types of accounts unless specified otherwise.
Macromedia has released Breeze 5. This new version of Breeze has many great new features. In order to take advantage of these new features, Breeze 4.1 users must first migrate to Breeze 5. This TechNote provides information on the migration process including what you need to do as a user and what you should expect.
Why should my organization migrate?
Breeze 5 offers significant advances in Breeze architecture, capabilities, and functionality. This upgrade includes new Breeze server technology, improvements to the Breeze applications that were available in Breeze 4.1, and a new application created for this release.

When can I update to Breeze 5? (Hosted only)
You can schedule your upgrade by contacting your Macromedia support representative. All customers must complete the upgrade to Breeze 5 by November 1, 2005.
Who handles migration? (Hosted only)
Your Breeze administrator or primary contact is the person thatshould handle the migration procedure. If you are an end user and you want your organization to migrate, talk to your Breeze administrator. A Macromedia Breeze Support Engineer will be facilitating the migration procedure once your company is ready to upgrade.
How do I update to Breeze 5? (Hosted only)
Note: The following steps should be taken by the Breeze administrator or primary contact for your Breeze account.
The first step to migrating is to download and read the Breeze 5 Migration Guide (PDF, 131K) so that you know what to expect. Once you are ready to migrate, contact Breeze Product Support using the online Support Incident form. Include your account name and/or number, a phone number and a time when you can be reached. A Breeze support representative will contact you to discuss the details of the migration and schedule a day to migrate the account.
Will the URL's for my meetings and meeting recordings still work after my account is migrated?
Yes, URL's are still valid for meetings and meeting recordings.
Will self registration still function the same in Breeze 5?
No, self registration has been rolled into the Events Module. Meetings that previously had self registration enabled will no longer have this feature once they are migrated. If you have concerns about this, talk to your Breeze administrator. For administrators, please discuss any concerns with the Support Engineer that schedules your migration.
What happens to presentations when my account is migrated?
Please first refer to the Breeze 5 Migration Guide. Here is some supplemental information to the guide regarding presentations:
- By default, after an account is migrated, all presentations remain in the 4.1 format with the old presentation viewer, quizzing, and content.
- These 4.1 presentations can still be launched and tracked from the Breeze Manager without having to be converted.
- These 4.1 presentations can still be included as part of a course or curriculum without having to be converted to the 5.0 format.
If you want to take advantage of any of the new 5.0 functionality such as new question types, quiz and survey enhancements, customizable viewer, better conversion, or new viewer features like adding attachments, then you must republish the presentation using the new 5.0 Breeze Presenter product.
What happens when I republish my content after my account is migrated?
If the 4.1 presentation is just content with no quiz or survey questions in it, then all you need to do is republish it and the new features will automatically be part of the presentation.
If the 4.1 presentation has quiz or survey content in it:
- The author is prompted to allow Breeze Presenter to convert the old quiz content.
- If the request is accepted, the conversion, images and fonts in the quiz are displayed using standard formatting. You must reapply, in Breeze Presenter 5, any custom formatting you previously applied to the quiz in Breeze Presentation 4.1.
- If the question included custom audio feedback for a quiz using the Breeze 4.1 Plug-in for PowerPoint, it must be re-recorded in Breeze Presenter.
- You can now use Breeze Presenter 5 customization options to perform any customizations that were performed in Breeze Presentation 4.1 SCORM and AICC LMS adaptors to support LMS requirements.
