Error after entering name and e-mail address in the Connection Wizard

Issue

After you enterthe name and e-mail address in the Connection Wizard, the following error message appears:

"Contribute has disabled your connection to this website because an unknown error occurred. For more information contact this website's administrator."

Reason

This occurs with Contribute 3.x and 4users and is caused by a corrupt hub file that resides on the server.

A corrupt hub file also causes a blank ˜Permission Group List box in the Connection Wizard for Contribute 1 and 2 users. Refer toBlank Permission Group List (TechNote tn_19001) for the solution.

Solution

Several users have reported that deleting the hub file (the shared settings file) on the server fixes this issue. Here are steps to workaround the issue.

Warning: All sitewide and permission group settings will be lost if the hub file is deleted.

  1. In Contribute, choose Edit > My Connection.
  2. Choose the connection and click the Remove button.
  3. Find the hub file, which will be in the _mm folder within the root folder of the site. In Contribute 3.x and 4, the hub file is called cthub[randomstring].csi. Example of path:wwwroot/_mm cthub[randomstring].csi. In Contribute versions 1 and 2, the hub file is calledcontribute.xml.

Note: The following list of programs may allow you to browse directly to the hub file in the server:
  4. Delete or rename the Contribute 3 hub file (cthub[randomstring].csi).
  5. Return to Contribute and re-establish the connection. For more information, refer to Setting up a site connection in Contribute (TechNote tn_16646).
