Configuring Connect Professional to listen on additional ports for Connect 6 & 5.x

Issue

Corporate proxy servers and firewalls often block port 1935 for inbound and outbound traffic on the local area network (LAN). Therefore, a client may not be able to attend an AdobeConnect Professional meeting through port 1935.

Reason

Connect Professional meeting must be configured to additionally listen on ports 443 or 80 if clients have port 1935 blocked.

Solution

Connect Professional can be configured so that Connect Enterprise Server 6 and 5.x releases can open ports 1935, 443 and 80 with one single IP address and one single DNS.

In general, all Connect Professional configurations are done through the Application Console Manager, however, to setup the extra ports for Connect Professional, the custom.ini must be manually modified. Below you will find the steps for Connect Professional and the 5.x releases. If you are unsure of which version of Connect Professional you are running, navigate to the following URL: http://{your_Breeze_URL}/common/version.txt

To configure Connect Professional 6, perform the following steps:
  1. Log on to the Connect server.
  2. Copy and paste the following three lines to the <root>:\breeze\custom.ini file:

    Note: Make sure you don't have these three lines in the custom.ini already. If you do, then replace those three lines with the updated ones below.
     HTTPS_PORT=8443

    DEFAULT_FCS_HOSTPORT=:1935,443,80
    RTMP_SEQUENCE=rtmp://external-host:1935/?rtmp://localhost:8506/,
    rtmp://external-host:443/?rtmp://localhost:8506/,
    rtmp://external-host:80/?rtmp://localhost:8506/,
    rtmpt://external-host:443/?rtmpt://localhost:8506/,
    rtmpt://external-host:80/?rtmpt://localhost:8506/
  3. Save and close the custom.ini file.
  4. Open the Connect Console: Start > Programs > Adobe Connect Enterprise Server > Configure Adobe Connect Enterprise Server.
  5. Click on Server Settings page.
  6. For HTTP Port, enter 8080.
  7. Save this page.
  8. Open the Services in Control Panel and stop the following services:
    • Adobe Connect Enterprise Service
    • Flash Media Administration Server
    • Flash Media Server (FMS)
  9. With the Services window still open, start the following services:
    • Flash Media Administration Server
    • Flash Media Server (FMS)
    • Adobe Connect Enterprise Service
To configure Breeze Meeting 5.1, perform the following steps:

    DEFAULT_FCS_HOSTPORT=:1935,443,80
    RTMP_SEQUENCE=rtmp://edge-host:1935/?rtmp://host:1935/,
    rtmp://edge-host:443/?rtmp://host:1935/,
    rtmp://edge-host:80/?rtmp://host:1935/,
    rtmpt://edge-host:443/?rtmp://host:1935/,
    rtmpt://edge-host:80/?rtmp://host:1935/
  3. Save and close the file.
  4. Open the Breeze Console: Start > Programs > Macromedia Breeze > Configure Breeze.
  5. Click on Server Settings page.
  6. For HTTP Port, enter 8080.
  7. Save this page.

  9. With the Services window still open, start the following services:
    • Flash Communication Administration Server
    • Flash Communication Server (FlashCom)
    • Macromedia Breeze Application Service

Watch the demonstration below for the steps to modify the configuration for Breeze Meeting 5.1.

To configure Breeze Meeting 5.0, perform the following steps:
  1. Logon to the Breeze server.
  2. Copy and paste the following four lines to the<root>:\Breeze\custom.ini file:
     HTTP_PORT=8080

    HTTPS_PORT=8443
    DEFAULT_FCS_HOSTPORT=:1935,443,80 RTMP_SEQUENCE=rtmp://edge-host:1935/?rtmp://host:1935/,
    rtmp://edge-host:443/?rtmp://host:1935/,
    rtmp://edge-host:80/?rtmp://host:1935/,
    rtmpt://edge-host:443/?rtmp://host:1935/,
    rtmpt://edge-host:80/?rtmp://host:1935/
  3. Save and close the file.
  4. Open the Services in Control Panel and stop the following services:
    1. Macromedia Breeze Application Service
    2. Flash Communication Administration Server
    3. Flash Communication Server (FlashCom)
  5. With the Services window still open, start the following services:
    1. Flash Communication Administration Server
    2. Flash Communication Server (FlashCom)
    3. Macromedia Breeze Application Service

Note: There is no need to open port 8080 and 8443 on the corporate firewall. These are internal ports for Breeze to communicate within the Breeze application internally.

Watch the demonstration below for the steps to modify the configuration for Breeze Meeting 5.0.

Additional Information

For additional port configuration information for Breeze 4.1, see Configuring Breeze Live to listen on ports 1935, 443 and 80 with two IP addresses (TechNote e5212700) and Using Breeze 4.1, participants cannot connect to Breeze Live due to port 1935 not being open (TechNote 28ea0769).
