Reason

This issue usually occurs on systems where the Windows 2003 installation already included SP1, rather than those where the SP1 upgrade was done later. There could be various reasons for the failure, but most likely it relates to Windows 2003 strict permissions system.

Solution

To solve the problem, try the following options:

  1. Check your installer and make sure that its MD5 checksum is the same as the checksum given on the download page (for ColdFusion MX 7.0.1, it is 51dedc5fa707aa6e1d61cb8ee328cc92). If it is different, try downloading the installer once again. If it still differs after another download, please contact Adobe Customer Service or Technical Support and you will be provided with an FTP link of the installer's location.
  2. If the checksum matches but you still get the same errors, next would be to modify the boot.ini file. It is located under your primary drive (usually C) and is hidden by default. Follow these steps to view the file and make necessary changes:
    1. In Windows Explorer, go to Tools and choose Folder Options. Select View and scroll down to 'Hide protected operating system files (Recommended)'. Uncheck this box and hit Apply.
    2. You should now see boot.ini under your primary drive root. Right-click on the file and go to Properties. Uncheck the 'Read Only' attribute of the file and click OK.
    3. Open boot.ini in a text editor and look for the parameter NoExecute. By default, it equals to either OptOut or OptIn. Change it to be NoExecute=AlwaysOff. Save the file and restart your server.
    4. Attempt another installation of ColdFusion MX 7.
  3. If you are still getting the same errors, try the following options:
    • Install with the built-in web server only option and then configure a connector to your web server manually.
    • Give Everyone read permissions by right-clicking on the drive letter in Windows Explorer and selecting Properties > Security. Then, select Everyone and check the Read checkbox.
    • Manually create the CFusionMX7 installation directory prior to installation and give Everyone read permissions as above.
    • If you manually installed Service Pack 1 on yourmachine, uninstall Service Pack 1.Then try installing ColdFusion and then re-install Service Pack 1.
  4. If none of the above help, the last option would be to install ColdFusion MX 7 on a different Windows machine (either 2000, XP, or 2003) and move the CFusionMX7 directory over to your original machine. Please make sure that:
    • You install ColdFusion MX 7 on the failing machine even though there are errors.
    • You install ColdFusion MX 7 on the alternative machine on the same letter drive that you use on your failing machine.
    • Back up the CFusionMX7 directory on the failing machine by renaming it to something different.
    • Move the CFusionMX7 directory from the alternative machine to the failing machine.
    • Install or reinstall the web server connector, if needed.
