Incompatible Version of the RPC Stub error when installing Dreamweaver MX 2004
Issue
When some users install Macromedia Dreamweaver MX 2004, the following error appears:
"Unhandled Exception Error Number: 0x80070725 description: Incompatible version of the RPC stub. Setup will now terminate"
Reason
The issue often occurs when DLLs that were installed in the system are not compatible to run on that particular system. Examples of those DLLs are Oleaut32.dll, Olepro32.dll, Asycfilt.dll, and Stdole2.tib. When, for example, version 3.50 of Oleaut32.dll is installed on Windows 2000, this error may occur because this DLL version is intended for Windows XP.
Solution
Try the following workarounds to address this issue.
- Install the latest version of Microsoft Internet Explorer (IE). Installing IE usually fixes DLL incompatibility issues.
- Download and run the MCREPAIR.EXE executable that is provided by Microsoft. During the installation, click YES to overwrite newer files.
- Visit the Macrovision Knowledge Base that discusses the issue in detail and other possible fixes to the issue.
