Breeze and Windows XP Service Pack 2

With the release of Microsoft's Windows XP Service Pack 2 (XP SP2), there are some changes to the operating system and Internet Explorer that may affect Macromedia Breeze users. This TechNote identifies those issues and references other more in-depth documents on the Macromedia support site.

Security alert when installing unsigned executables

When installing the Presenter Add-In for Breeze, FlashPaper, or the Microsoft PowerPoint plug-in for Breeze, the following security warning appears:

Open File - Security Warning.
The publisher could not be verified. Are you sure you want to run this software?

It is safe to click the Run button and install the program. For details on this issue, please refer to Security warning dialog appears when downloading trial or product (ServiceNote tn_19488) (Ref. 177681).

SP2 has a built-in firewall that blocks port 1935

Windows XP SP2 contains a built-in firewall that may block inbound connection attempts. Windows XP is a client operating system so there should not be too many users affected by this. For those running a development edition or personal edition server, port 1935 will need to be opened for inbound traffic.

Note: This only affects those running Windows XP as a server, which is not a support platform for the Breeze server.

When communicating with a Learning Management System (LMS), the client cannot send the ExitAU command and the user receives an error dialog stating, "Macromedia Breeze could not open a popup window to post exit data to your Learning Management System." This issue has been fixed for Macromedia hosted customers and a patch for licensed customers is available on the Breeze Licensed Support Center.

This problem affects only those customers who track Breeze content in an external LMS using AICC and also use Internet Explorer. It does not affect customers who use Breeze for tracking or customers who use SCORM.

Note: Some LMSs do not require the ExitAU command. However, customers using these systems will still get the warning dialog every time they exit a presentation.

Some firewire cameras stop working

Microsoft has replaced VfW with DirectShow and provided VfW compatibility via wrappers around DirectShow. Macromedia is looking in to this issue and to Microsoft for a fix of this issue. To potentially work around this issue, try reverting back to the Microsoft XP SP1 camera driver.
