Subscript and superscript fail in dynamic and input text fields

Issue

You cannot enter subscript or superscript text in dynamic and input text fields in Macromedia Flash 8. However, you can use these in static text fields.

Similarly, using subscript and superscript in a static text field that has been set to selectable will fail. Entering subscript and superscript text in a static text field, then enabling the selectable option, will cause the subscript and superscript text to disappear in the final Macromedia Flash Player movie (SWF).

Reason

Flash 8 adds some exciting new abilities to dynamic and input text fields, including full justification and accurate kerning and character spacing. However, the ability to use subscript and superscript was not feasible in this release.

Additionally, entering subscript and superscript in a selectable text field fails because in the background, static text fields set to selectable are exported (inside the final SWF) as dynamic text fields. Finally, because dynamic text fields do not support superscript or subscript, the text fails.

Solution
