Site definitions are duplicated or deleted

Issue

Site definitions in the Manage Sites dialog box may duplicate or disappear in certain situations. This issue is specific to Macromedia Dreamweaver MX 2004 version 7.0.1 on both Macintosh and Windows operating systems.

Reason

Any of the following actions may result in duplicated or deleted site definitions:

  • Importing site definitions (Ref. 167566).
  • Using underscore characters ( _ ) in the site definition name (Ref. 170186).
  • Creating, editing or deleting a site definition (Ref. 170174, 170180).

Solution

Here are a couple of suggestions for avoiding duplicate and disappearing site definitions:

  • Avoid using the underscore character in site definition names.
  • When importing, creating, renaming or deleting site definitions, perform the following steps in this specific order:
    1. Select Site > Manage Sites.
    2. In the Manage Sites dialog box, perform the desired action (e.g. import, edit, new, remove).
    3. In the Manage Sites dialog box, click the Done button.
    4. Go back into Site > Manage Sites.
    5. Select any site definition and click the Edit button.
    6. You do not need to make any changes. Just click the OK button in the "Site Definition for <your site>" dialog box.
    7. In the Manage Sites dialog box, click the Done button.
