Macromedia Flash crashes on launch

Issue

Macromedia Flash MX 2004 crashes on launch, or shortly after launch. Each new attempt to launch Flash fails. This issue may immediately follow the installation of the Flash 7.0.1 updater.

Reason

Processes still running in memory may cause errors when launching Flash.

Solution

  1. Open the task manager by pressing Ctrl + Alt + Delete.
  2. Click the Processes tab.
  3. Look for the processes called Flash.exe and~e5d141.tmp. (Dreamweaver also causes the~e5d141.tmp process to run. If you have Dreamweaver open, quit Dreamweaver before ending this process.)
  4. Select the two processes listed about and click End Process.

This should fix the crashes and you should be able to launch Flash. Very few customers have contacted support directly for assistance with this issue since it first emerged. This may indicate that the problem is system-specific, if you have problems with your installation, please contact support directly.
