ColdFusion MX: Unable to run Java applets in ColdFusion Administrator

Issue

When using the Browse Server option within the Macromedia ColdFusion Administrator, the following error may be encountered:

This applet displays a file-tree of the server to enable the user to browse its contents. Your browser is not configured correctly to use java applets. Please install the Java Runtime Environment (JRE) and be sure to install the browser plugins.

The file browser is a Java applet that requires the Java Runtime Environment (JRE) to be installed and configured for use with the web browser. The JRE consists of the Java Virtual Machine (JVM), Java platform core classes, and supporting Java libraries. The JRE is the runtime portion, which is all you need to run Java in your Web browser.

By default, a JVM is not included with Windows Server 2003, the original version of Windows XP, or Windows XP SP1a, but the Microsoft VM may be present on these systems if you upgrade over a previous version of Windows that included the Microsoft VM, or if the Microsoft VM was installed by a third party.

Solution

Download and install a JRE on the computer the ColdFusion Administrator is being used on. The most common JRE can be downloaded from Sun Microsystems.
