Service Note

Each user is prompted for serial number even though the product has been serialized

Issue

The following content applies to NA, APAC and EMEA Geos

This issue primarily affects volume licensed customers. Some customers report that each end user is prompted to enter a serial number when launching Macromedia software, even though a user with administrator privileges has already entered a serial number for the application. Although each user is asked to serialize the product, they will only have to serialize the application once.

This issue currently affects Contribute 2, Dreamweaver MX 2004, Fireworks MX 2004, Macromedia Flash MX 2004, FreeHand MX, and Studio MX 2004

Solution

The Macromedia Product Serialization Hot Fix 1.01 resolves this issue so that once the Administrator serializes the product, end users are no longer prompted to serialize.

Note: You must be logged in as an Administrator to run the Updater application.

  1. Close out of any of the affected applications.
  2. Download the Product Serialization Hot Fix Updater (18.4 MB) and save to your computer. The file is provided as a ZIP file, so you will need an unzipping utility such as PKWare's PkZip.
  3. Double-click the EXE file to launch the Hot Fix Updater, and follow the instructions to update your previously installed Macromedia products. There is no need to uninstall the software prior to running the updater. You will need to run the updater on all computers exhibiting this issue.
