Macromedia compatibility with Apple Macintosh OS X v 10.3 (Panther)

Macromedia and Apple engineering teams have been working to ensure that newly-released Macromedia products are fully supported on Apple Macintosh OS X version 10.3 (also known as Panther). The following items have been identified as potential issues. Please note that all products may not be affected by all issues. This TechNote will be updated as issues are resolved.

Issue: Applications will not launch after upgrading to Panther
topic update: 11/5/03

Some users are reporting that Macromedia applications will not launch after upgrading to Panther. These issues are specific to users who upgraded using either the "Archive and Install" or the"Erase and Install" features. This issue has frequently been described as the application icon bounces on the dock, but the application doesn't launch.

Solution

This issue and the solution are described in Some applications won't run after upgrading to Macintosh OS X version 10.2.8 or to Panther (version 10.3) (ServiceNote 18933).

Issue: Function keys are not available to applications
topic update: 11/06/03

The function keys F9, F10, and F11 are reserved in Macintosh OS X 10.3 for a new utility, Expos. Any user attempting to perform a function within an application by using those function keys will instead perform the tasks associated with the function key within Expos.

Solution

This issue can be resolved by remapping the function keys assigned to Expos to other keystroke combinations. This frees up the F9, F10 and F11 function keys for Macromedia applications.

  1. Choose System Preferences from the dock.
  2. In the System Preferences, choose Expos.
  3. Within the Expos dialog box, set the functionality assigned to these function keys to another keystroke combination.
Issue: Macromedia applications do not work with Fast User Switching
topic update: 10/27/03

Macromedia applications do not allow Fast User Switching on Macintosh OS X 10.3.

Reason

Fast switching allows multiple users to switch user accounts without shutting down documents and applications. This could lead to a scenario where multiple versions of the application would attempt to run concurrently. Macromedia applications are not coded to work with Fast User Switching.

Solution

There is no solution. Macromedia applications do not support Fast User Switching.
