Some MX 2004 applications do not run after upgrading Macintosh OS X versions

Issue

The following content applies to NA, APAC and EMEA Geos

Some customers who have updated or upgraded their version of the Macintosh OS X operating system have had problems running some or all Macromedia MX 2004 applications that use activation. The most common symptom of this issue is whenclicking the application icon, the icon "bounces" in the Dock as though the application is launching, but the icon eventually disappears, and the application never launches. Another symptom is the user being continually prompted for their username and password, no matter what is entered.

Note: This issue applies to Macromedia MX 2004 products only, and has been reported by customers upgrading to Macintosh OS X version 10.2.8, Macintosh OS X version 10.3 (also known as Panther), and Macintosh OS X version 10.4 (Tiger).

Reason

The following content applies to NA, APAC and EMEA Geos

Using the Archive and Install and Erase and Install feature while upgrading may not properly transfer activation files used by Macromedia software.Updating the OScan also affect the activation technology on some OS X user's machinesand cause the application to fail to activate and launch.

Solution

Macromedia has released a hot fix that resolves this issue for all products installed. To use, simply download and install the appropriate updater.

  1. Download the HotFix DMG file from below in the language of your choice:
  2. Double click the DMG image to mount it.
  3. From the DMG volume, double click the installer file to run the HotFix.
  4. After the HotFix installer has completed, run your Macromedia product. There is no need to reinstall your product.
  5. You will be prompted to enter your Administrator password. Follow the activation screens to activate your Macromedia product.

Your Macromedia product should activate and run properly.

Note: If you run a localized version version of the updater on an English operating system, the first screen you will see is in English (because this dialog box comes from the operating system itself). The remainder of the updater will be localized.
