QuickTime 7.1.3 installation breaks launch paths to Flash Video Encoder
Topic update: November 21, 2006
Issue
After updating to iTunes 7, which includes QuickTime 7.1.3, you are unable to launch the Flash Video Encoder. The following error message may also appear after you install only QuickTime 7.1.3 or later:
"The feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable. Click OK to try again, or enter an alternate path to a folder containing the installation package Macromedia Flash 8 Video Encoder.msi in the box below.
Use source:
C:\DOCUME~1\dmcnally\LOCALS~1\Temp\{2BD5C305-1B27-4D41-B690-7A61172D2FEB}
Error 1706. No valid source could be found for product Macromedia Flash 8 Video Encoder. The Windows installer cannot continue.
Reason
The Flash Video Encoder exporter includes a QuickTime component (FLV.qtx). This component is installed to C:\\Windows\system32 (if you have QuickTime 6.5). This component is a required file for the Flash 8 Video Encoder.
When you install QuickTime 7.1.3 or later, the installed QuickTime components are moved to C:\\Program Files\QuickTime\QTComponents (where QuickTime 7.0 expects them to be). However, the next launch of Flash Video Encoder is then missing the required FLV.qtx file and attempts to repair the installation.
Solution: Re-enable the Flash Video Encoder by reinstalling it or by copying the FLV.qtx file.
To reinstall the Flash Video Encoder:
- Remove the Flash Video Encoder.
- Reinstall the Flash Video Encoder with QuickTime 7.0 already installed on the system.
To re-enable the Flash Video Encoder by copying the FLV.qtx file, move a copy of the FLV.qtx file from C:\\Program Files\QuickTime\QTComponents to C:\\Windows\system32.
iTunes 7/QuickTime 7.1.3 update breaks Flash compatibility
Topic update: September 22, 2006
Issue
After updating to iTunes 7, which includes QuickTime 7.1.3, you are unable to view QuickTime MOV movies which contain Flash SWF tracks. Additionally, Flash authors attempting to export QuickTime MOV files will receive the error message:
"An error occurred because a required QuickTime component could not be found."
This issue effects both Macintosh and Windows users of Flash Authoring and QuickTime 7.1.3 player.
Reason
In QuickTime 7.1.3 the Flash track is disabled by default (see Apple Tech Doc "QuickTime 7.1.3 and Adobe Flash").
Solution: Re-enable the Flash track by setting a QuickTime preference.
To enable Flash track viewing and QuickTime exporting:
On Mac OS X:
- Open System Preferences in the Apple menu.
- Double-click QuickTime in the Internet & Networking section.
- Select the Advanced tab.
- Select Enable Flash.
- Close the QuickTime Control Panel.
On Windows:
- Choose Start > Settings > Control Panel.
- Double-click the QuickTime Control Panel.
- Select the Advanced tab.
- Under Media Types, select Enable Playback Of Flash Tracks.
- Close the QuickTime Control Panel.
After changing the QuickTime preference, Flash authors must restart the Flash authoring tool. After you restart, QuickTime export should function correctly.
Flash 8 crash when you click in tool bar
Topic update: October 19, 2005
Issue
A crash occurs when you click in the tool bar, but only if you click between the highlighted tool buttons.
Reason
Adobe is aware of a crashing situation involving the Flash 8 Tool panel and the third-party software WindowBlinds. This crash only occurs with some of the WindowBlind skins and only occurs when you click in the 'dead' area between Tool buttons.
Solution
Switching to a different WindowBlind skin may solve the problem. Disabling WindowBlinds should also solve the problem. If WindowBlinds is disabled and a crash still occurs, contact Adobe Support.
Flash Remoting components cannot be installed to Flash 8
Topic update: September 20, 2005
Issue
The Flash Remoting components for Flash MX 2004 can't be installed to Flash 8 Professional. The installer does not recognize Flash 8 as a destination.
Solution
Adobe has released an updated set of Remoting Components for installation with Flash 8 Professional. Download the installer from the Flash Remoting Downloads page.
Note: Existing FLAs using Remoting components will open in Flash 8, compile to SWF, and can be saved as Flash 8 FLA without the need to install this component update. They will continue to function correctly in Flash Player 8. Developers utilizing Remoting in new Flash 8 FLA files will need the new components.

Issue

Mac OS 10.4 Only: Flash 8 cannot see extensions
Topic update: September 14, 2005
Issue
Extension Manager installs extensions into the "en" folder instead of localized folders.
Reason
The causes of this problem are:
- Preference file contains a string that defines the language folder where the Extension Manager is going to install the extensions, so if you had previously installed the English version of Flash 8 and never deleted the preference file, next time you try to install Flash 8 the Preference file will point to the "en" folder as a default folder to install the extensions.
- Missing or deleted Configuration folder.
Solution
To fix this problem on Mac OS:
- Browse to Macintosh HD/Users/username/Library/Preferences.
- Delete Flash 8 MRU and Flash 8 Preferences files.
- Start Flash 8.
