File transfer error when putting files using the File management features

Issue

When using the File Management button, Fireworks MX 2004 returns an error:

"Could not complete your request. Could not connect to site<sitename>.
Check your network connection and the remote info for this site in Dreamweaver."

Reason

The Password field in the Remote Site category's panel in the Site Definition in Dreamweaver MX 2004 contains a character that the Fireworks MX 2004 File management feature cannot read correctly. For example, a character that may cause this error is the "@" symbol. This can occur on remote sites that are connected via local network or FTP.

Note: Because of the nature of this issue, it is impossible to provide a list of all characters that cause this error.

Solution

This error can be avoided if the file is checked out with Dreamweaver first, and then opened with Fireworks.

Another, more complicated option, is to return to the Site Definition for the current site you are working on and change your password, removing or changing any special characters. The network admin may have to change this setting on the server. If you are using a network connection you may need to change your network password as well.
