ColdFusion MX and JRun4: Support for MS Windows 2003

Both ColdFusion MX and JRun 4 will provide support for Microsoft's newest operating system, Windows 2003. This TechNote will discuss the availability of this enhancement to these Macromedia server products.

On April 24, 2003, Microsoft announced the availability of the Windows 2003 operating system. As the general policy of Macromedia is to provide support for new versions of major platforms within 60-90 days of availability, we have focused our development efforts on supporting Windows 2003 for both JRun and ColdFusion MX.

For JRun, the JRun4 Updater2 kit provides support for both Windows 2003 and IIS 6.0. Much work has gone into both the ISAPI connector and the Web Server Configuration tool to support the new design and functionality of this web server. The IIS6 connector is now composed of two different DLL files, to handle request traffic and filter mappings.

For ColdFusion MX, all development work required to support Windows 2003 and IIS 6.0 has been completed and is available in ColdFusion MX 6.1. Instructions for using ColdFusion 5 with Windows 2003 and IIS 6.0 can be found here.

In addition to these current versions of server products, Macromedia is also evaluating the requirements for including Windows 2003 support for JRun 3.1. This investigation is on-going, and at the time of this writing, no final decision has been reached.

Macromedia is dedicated to supporting all major industry platforms, and Windows 2003 is no exception.
