Contribute 3.11 installation fails with 'package parameter not supported' error

Issue

When installing Macromedia Contribute 3.11 on a Windows XP or Windows 2000 operating system, some customers may see this error:

 "package" parameter not supported

Reason

If Windows Installer is not installed on a system, Contribute by default installs Windows Installer. It will install version 2.0 to make sure that the installer can work in Windows 98 SE (version 3.0 is not available for this operating system).

However, Contribute will install this version on all operating systems. Since Windows Installer's "/package" option only works inWindows Installer 3.0, it will not work in the Windows installer version 2.0 that Contribute installed.

Solution

Upgrade to Windows Installer 3.0, then, run the Contribute 3.11 installer again.

Additional Information

For more information about the Windows Installer 3.0 redistributable, see KB Article 884016: Windows Installer 3.0 is now available.
