Xtras and fontMap.txt updates for Director MX

File updates For Director MX

This TechNote provides information about several updated files which are available for download. The files include: Flash Asset, NetLingo, TextXtra and fontmap.txt. Below is information on the correct method for each update, as well as issues that will be resolved upon updating these files.

The files available in this TechNote apply only to Director MX. They should not be used with Director MX 2004 or versions prior to Director MX.

The Flash Asset and NetLingo Xtras are available for the Shockwave player through the auto-update feature. End-users with the "auto-update" feature enabled will receive the updates automatically. For more information about enabling or disabling the"auto-update" feature see How to disable the auto update setting in Shockwave (TechNote 16683).

The 'TextXtra' Xtra and the 'fontMap.txt' file address the Euro (€) character issue on French and German operating systems. For more information about the Euro display issue refer to Euro character (€) does not display correctly (TechNote 16797). Developers should replace the 'fontMap.txt' file and the 'TextXtra' Xtra on their systems with the new versionslocated at the bottom of this TechNote. For more information on how to manually update these files, see the"Download if needed" section below.

Modify the xtraInfo.txt file to point to the correct TextXtra download.

Note: The 'fontMap.txt' file is not cross platform compatible. Do not use the Macintosh version of the fontMap.txt on a Windows OS. Do not use the Windows version of the fontMap.txt on a Macintosh OS.

All users of Director MX should update the four new files.

Fix List
Flash Asset Xtra Changes
1. Fixes browser freeze when using Internet Explorer on Windows.

Issue occurs when there are two simultaneous browser windows running with Shockwave movies using local shared objects to communicate.

2. Fixes several Japanese text and the Flash asset issues, including:

The IME window is now positioned near the editable text object rather than at top left of the screen.

The getVariable and setVariable sprite methods did not work correctly with Japanese text strings.

Flash string and array objects created with Lingo did now support Japanese text.

Properly converts Japanese text before making the getUrl, Lingo, and event callbacks from Flash to Lingo.

3. Flash sounds did not respond to Director's sound level setting. This was a Windows issue only.
4. Flash sounds of type "stream" should resume playing after the sprite is stopped. This change is for better compatibility with the version 8.5.1 of the Flash Asset.
5. Eliminates a 4 byte memory leak with Flash objects referenced from Lingo.

6.

Incorporates the changes of Flash Player release 6.0r79, which addresses security issues and contains fixes to previously existing issues such as audio video streams. For more information see the Flash Player release notes.
In addition, the new Flash Asset includes fixes for the following bugs:

Mac only, ActionScript XML object which contain hi-ascii characters are not being read correctly.

Japanese users only, IME window for font-embedded Flash fields appear in incorrect position.

NetLingo Xtra changes:
1. Fix for a browser only problem introduced with a recent security fix to the NetLingo Xtra.
Resolves netDone() Function returns 0 (FALSE), when used in a Shockwave movie netDone() function returns 0 (FALSE)
2. Allow errors (such as "url not found") to get caught while waiting for browser url resolution.

Updating the Xtras for Director MX

Developers should update the Xtras by downloading them and placing them in the Xtras folder (C:\Program Files\Macromedia\Director MX\Xtras on Windows and Hard Drive/Applications/Macromedia/Macromedia Director MX/Xtras on Macintosh). The new Xtras should replace the previous Xtras. The 'fontMap.txt' file needs to be placed in the Director MX application folder. The new fontMap.txt will replace the existing one.
